On Wednesday evening, May 20, 2009 Marshall was riding motorcycles with his friends when he was thrown from his bike and seriously injured. Friends of his family quickly rallied to support them in any way we can. This site will be used to provide news on his recovery and collect donations to support the family financially: the financial impact of his medical bills and lost income during his recovery are expected to be significant. Marshall is a member of Boy Scout Troop 962 and was a member of Cub Scout Pack 962 since entering as a Tiger. His dad, John, was active as an Assistant Den Leader in the Pack and now as an Assistant Scoutmaster in the Troop. Marshall is the 3-time Pack Pinewood Derby Champion for Pack 962. John and Marshall enjoyed the motorcycle hobby together and were both active amateur motocross racers. Marshall and John also participate in soccer and football. There are several ways in which you can help: - Donate through this web site (via PayPal)
- Donate directly to the Wood Family account at BB&T
- Come out to one the the scheduled fund raisers
- Pray for Marshall's complete recovery

Hello Friends and Neighbors!!! It's been a while since my last email and I am happy to report in that things for Marshall are moving along. A lot of positive things have happened since school closed. Michelle was able to cut her work schedule back to enable her to spend more time with the kids. John's work is busy so that's awesome- he's busy but still able to help around the house and be a helpful parent and spouse. Michelle's been able to get the kids in with a local sitter and a camp or two while she's at work and that's been great for them. Both kids are enjoying the pool this summer- it's a great way to play with other kids and burn off some energy at the same time. Michelle is also able to have some friendly adult conversation and that's always a good thing. Marshall continues to visit his tutor 2 times per week. He's less than excited about that but he's not given a choice. His progress continues and little by little he is returning to the kid he was. It's a slow process and Michelle and John are still VERY concerned about school in the fall but steps are being taken to set processes in motion before Marshall gets there so that his transition will be as painless as possible. Jump for FUNds! Aug. 13, 6:00 - 8:30 pm, Pump It Up - Leesburg. $10 per person. Bring the kids for an evening of fun jumping on the indoor inflatables at Pump It Up. 73 Lawson Rd, Leesburg, behind the Toyota and Honda dealerships off Rt. 7 East www.pumpitupparty.com (703) 443-1400 |

So, school is out and summer has officially begun. Marshall was able to go to school part of a day last week but had to leave when they started playing kick ball. Kick ball is not a game that's good for those folks that have head injuries!! From what I understand, he was very upset about it but I'm sure it was for the better. This week, Michelle's mom is staying with them so that Michelle can get to her job full time and John can keep working away at his job. Although this arrangement sounds wonderful, I believe it's a little difficult since Marshall and his grandma don't often get a lot of time together and this is a change in routine for him. In any event, we're all thankful that she's able to be with them so that Michelle can work. Abigail continues to be Abigail; fun and imaginative and her little Abigail self. I think she's still spending a fair amount of time at the Hubbuch's house. |

I wanted to update you all on Marshall's ongoings this week. Michelle's mom was here this week which allowed both Michelle and John to work a lot. Because Michelle's mom was here, Marshall had no doctor's appointments. He did go to his tutor two times this week. I am told they are working on dictionary skills, phonics and sequencing of events. Michelle is very pleased with the tutor, so that's good. This week, Marshall also joined a guitar group with Frank Keim. He's THRILLED with this new skill and Michelle and John are grateful that Marshall is able to be a student of this instructor. I am not familiar with him but am told that he (Mr. Keim) is well known in his field and he lives right here in Lovettsville. How great is that?!?! |

This week was not overly exciting in the Wood house. Marshall had doctor's appointments this week and was officially released from his Neurologist's care- meaning there's nothing further the doctor can do until the swelling subsides. So, I think it's good to know that there doesn't appear to be any permanent brain damage. They went to the tutor this past week and I believe they're trying to get into a routine. Routines are not always easy for kids that don't like to sit still so that will be a challenge but Michelle is pleased with the tutor's willingness to work with Marshall so that's a good thing. I think that'll be a good relationship. |
